Introduction:
90 Miles to Havana
90 Miles to Havana is written by Enrique Flores-Galbis, who was one of the 14,000 children who fled Cuba to Miami in order to escape Fidel Castro’s dictatorship. This novel is based upon Flores-Galbis’s experience fleeing Cuba and reflected through the experiences of young Julian and his two older brothers who are tormented upon their arrival at the refugee camp in Miami. Without any indication of where their parents might be, or whether they shall ever reunite again, Julian and his brothers must face the totalitarianism that seems to have followed them into Miami in the form of a bully.
